Weird isn’t it!

This is an optic illusion caused by the ambiguity of relative depth relationship between the two legs when they overlap and cross each other in the process ofrotation. That is, at the point of crossing, the leg in vertical orientation can be seen either as in front of the rotating leg or as in back of the rotating leg, and vice versa. In fact, if you cover the upper part of the toros so that only the two legs are in view, you can experience an even stronger illusion in that the dpeth relationship between the two legs can also be changed almost at will. This illusion essentally is of the same principle as the illusion one would experience when we see a 3D version of the well-known Necker cube set into rotation.

I can only see her moving clockwise. Which means what? I’m more creative than most people?

This is not an illusion at all. I scrolled down so i could only see the foot she is spinning on, and saw how the program changed to make her change directions. It has nothing to do with illusion, and everything to do with trickery. do not be fooled.

That’s an interesting comment. So what you are saying is that the illusion still works on just her foot!
Different people see her spinning in different directions at different times. People also disagree on when she changes directions, and some never see her switch.
How can that not be an illusion. Perhaps you can share your insight on the foot?

actually… it is an illusion. on the pause menu of the video game ‘Assassin’s Creed’ there’s a spinning memory strand. if you stare at it long enough it changes directions… just like the girl.
IT’S IN YOUR MIND!
Oh, and if you still think it’s an illusion… try looking at it with a friend to see if you both see the change in direction at the same time.

why does it become harder to visualize the picture changing direction when it is spinning slower?
Comment from: anonymous [Visitor]
To make her change direction, just imagine her swaying her leg back and forth out the front of her body. DONT LOOK AT HER HEAD, it makes it so you cant swap. I always see it going clockwise, but i can make it change to anti clockwise when ever i want.

Well… I can see it both counter and clockwise whenever/whatever I chose. Pretty simple I guess.
Those who keep on saying it’s the program: Just because you can’t see it both ways because of your dull senses, doesn’t mean it’s tricking you.. find a way 2 see it its pretty cool.

people say it is not an illusion and that we can see same change at same time if we see with a friend but it IS an illusion since i can make her appear like changing direction at all times any side :)
Hi How do I get the dancing girl on my web log … is it available as a widget?
Thanks
Amy

You could take a copy and upload it to your server.

It is an illusion (@ the person saying “the program changed to make her change directions"). why? because there is only one .gif image with 34 frames being looped and it can’t randomly change to another image or rotation a minute or so later. Only one file.

it IS an illusion! me and my mom both sat here watching it and we both saw it switch at different times. grab a partner and test it out. see if you both see it change at the SAME time or not :)

Age was asked for: 63. It was turning clockwise and I didn’t think it was going to change direction, but it finally did. Weird!

This is not an illusion as many has already said. Indeed there are some exercises that are taugh to painters to pass from the right side to the left side of the brain. You can even play with the image and control it at will. You may experience a sensation of awareness after mastering it. Sorry for my bad english, I am not native

he he thats funny if you want to see it clockwise and counter clockwise you shouldnt move your eyes you should look at a point on a part of her body and suddenly it will change to clockwise/counterclockwise.

this is an optical illusion. stare at the straight leg/foot and you WILL notice the change of direction.
