Install Spring IDE for Eclipse 3.4
June 2nd, 2008Installing Spring IDE on Eclipse 3.4 (RC1) was not quite as straight forward as I thought it would have been, so here are a few more details on how to do it.
- Help->Software Update
- Click Available Software tab
- Click Add Site
- Enter
http://springide.org/updatesite - Click checkbox next to
http://springide.org/updatesiteto expand. - Click checkbox to uncheck, then click again to check parent and children [Eclipse bug 232112].
- Click Install
- Software validity warning message will come up - click Yes
Resolving dependencies will moan with:
(Spring IDE Bean Support (required),Spring IDE Dependencies (only for Eclipse 3.2.x),Spring IDE OSGi Extension (optional),Spring IDE Web Flow Extension (optional),Spring IDE Security Extension (optional),Spring IDE AOP Extension (optional),Spring IDE JavaConfig Extension (optional),Spring IDE Autowire Extension (optional),Spring IDE Mylyn Integration,Spring IDE AJDT Integration (optional),Spring IDE Security Extension Developer Resources,Spring IDE Autowire Extension Developer Resources,Spring IDE AOP Developer Resources,Spring IDE OSGi Extension Developer Resources,Spring IDE Webflow Developer Resources,Spring IDE Mylyn Integration Sources,Spring IDE JavaConfig Developer Resources,Spring IDE Sources,Spring IDE AOP Developer Resources) will be ignored.
- Uncheck Spring IDE Dependencies (only for Eclipse 3.2.x)
- Screen will re-calculate successfully and the Finish button will appear, click it
All is good in the world.

I'm not able to download it, Eclipse doesn't connect to the update site (probably due to a firewall on my company)Is there any way to install Eclipse IDE without the update site?
I know what you're thinking: I already tried the zipped archive and it ain't working either (in fact it completely messes up my Eclipse installation).
Spring IDE installation really sucks. They should solve all the bugs in every version before moving on to the next one and adding new ones. Shame on them...

As of this writing, installing Spring IDE 2.2.4 to Ganymede 3.4.2 the "Spring IDE Dependencies (only for Eclipse 3.2.x)" option is no longer visible, but you do have to uncheck:the Spring IDE Mylyn Integration and
the Spring IDE AJDT Integration
or it will squawk about some bad swt dependency. Thanks for the tips everybody!

When I try to use update manager to update the spring ide from the following website:http://dist.springframework.org/release/IDE i get an error message:
"no repository found at..."
I tried your steps above and it gives me the same error message.

And I must say one more thing - make sure to uncheck only the "AGDT..." dependencies, which allows you to install successfully.

Don't bother with the Spring IDE plugin for Eclipse, the project is pretty much dead. It even looks like they have scrapped their web site http://springide.org/The next best and better thing is to use the Spring Tool Suite instead and you can read about it here:
